Hi everyone,

I want to apply for PAN cards for my husband and daughter, and both are NRIs. My daughter is a minor, so I’m also wondering whether her application has any additional requirements.

Could someone who has recently applied for an NRI PAN share some information about:

  • Documents required for an NRI PAN card
  • Additional documents required for a minor
  • Whether the application can be completed online from outside India
  • Overseas address vs Indian address requirements
  • Document attestation/certification
  • Expected processing time
  • Government/application fees

I’d also like to know whether the e-PAN is issued before the physical PAN card and whether both can be requested when applying from overseas.

Any recent experience would be really helpful.

I applied for PAN from outside India and found that the online application itself was fairly straightforward, but document submission and delivery took additional time.

The processing time can vary, so I wouldn't rely on a fixed number of days. If you only need the PAN number for an urgent financial or tax requirement, check whether the current process allows an e-PAN and whether it will meet your particular requirement.

Also check the current official fee before submitting rather than relying on older forum posts.

For an overseas applicant, pay particular attention to the address and document certification requirements. Don't assume that an overseas address will be handled exactly like an Indian residential address.

I would also keep the original documents and clear scans ready before starting the applications. If the application asks for attested or certified documents, follow the specified certification method rather than simply uploading ordinary copies.

For a minor, also make sure the relationship/guardian details are entered correctly.

Yes, NRIs can apply for a PAN card. The application can generally be initiated online, but the exact document requirements depend on the applicant's circumstances.

For your husband, you'll typically need identity and address documentation along with the required PAN application details.

For your daughter, since she is a minor, the application involves her details as well as the details/signature or declaration of the parent or legal guardian, depending on the application procedure.

I'd recommend checking the current PAN application instructions before submitting because the forms and requirements have changed under the Income Tax Rules, 2026.
