Hi everyone,
I filed my Income Tax Return (ITR) for FY 2025–26 through the Income Tax e-Filing portal a couple of days ago, but now I'm a little confused about the ITR verification step.
After submitting the return, the portal showed a message saying that the return must be verified to complete the filing process. I know there are different ways to verify an ITR, such as Aadhaar OTP, net banking, Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), bank account EVC, or by sending a signed ITR-V if electronic verification isn't possible.
I'm currently living in Canada, so mailing the ITR-V from overseas may take some time. I'm hoping to complete the verification online if possible.
For those who have filed recently:
I'd appreciate hearing your experiences, especially from NRIs who completed the process from outside India.
I used Aadhaar OTP because my Aadhaar was linked with my PAN and my mobile number was active in India.
The OTP arrived almost immediately, and after entering it, the portal updated my return status to verified within a few minutes.
A friend of mine couldn't use Aadhaar OTP because his mobile number linked with Aadhaar was no longer active. He ended up verifying through his pre-validated bank account instead.
So it's a good idea to check which verification methods are available in your account before filing.
I'm based in the UK and verified my ITR using net banking.
After filing the return, I logged into my bank account through the e-Filing portal and completed the verification. The status changed to "Successfully e-Verified" within a couple of minutes, and I received both an email and an SMS confirmation shortly afterward.
The whole process was much easier than sending a physical ITR-V from abroad. As long as your bank supports e-Verification, it's definitely worth considering.

I'm an NRI living in Australia, and I used the Electronic Verification Code (EVC) generated through my pre-validated bank account.
It worked without any issues, and the verification was completed almost instantly. I also received an acknowledgement email confirming that my return had been successfully e-Verified.
If you're filing from outside India and don't have access to Aadhaar OTP, EVC or net banking can be convenient alternatives. Just make sure your bank account is eligible and properly linked on the e-Filing portal before starting.
