There are many tax savings options for an NRI that can be very beneficial. It includes fixed deposits FDs, National Pension System, Direct Equity, Real Estate, Mutual Funds, Public Provident Fund, Portfolio Management Services (PMS), and unit-linked insurance Plans (ULIPs).

    I have invested in government bonds, which are very beneficial for the NRI. Given below is a list of some government bonds that NRIs can invest in:

    • Any public sector unit or capital bonds. 
    • In secure corporate bonds and non-convertible debentures (NCDs). 
    • Investments in government tax-free NRI bonds. 
    • Treasury bonds give you guaranteed returns. 
    • Zero-coupon and municipal bonds. 
    • In infrastructure bonds, like NHAI, REC, etc.

    3. Getting dividends from the Indian companies, but they are subject to a 20% TDS. 
    4. Long-term capital gains tax is 12.5% for amounts exceeding 1.25 lakh.
