I filed my Income Tax Return (ITR) for AY 2026-27 a few days ago and completed the e-verification process. After going through my documents again, I realized I may have made a mistake while filing.
I think I forgot to include some interest income from one of my bank accounts. The amount isn't very large, but I don't want it to create problems later if it shows up in my AIS or Form 26AS. I'm also wondering whether I entered the correct TDS amount because one of the entries was updated after I had already filed.
I've heard that it's possible to file a revised ITR, but I'm not sure how the process works or whether there's a deadline for making corrections. Has anyone here revised their return after submission? Was the revised return processed smoothly, or did it delay your refund?
If you've gone through this recently, I'd appreciate hearing what kind of changes you made and whether you faced any issues. I understand every tax situation is different, but I'm hoping to learn from others' experiences before making any changes.
I had to revise my ITR last year after I noticed I had missed reporting a fixed deposit interest amount.
The original return had already been e-verified, so I logged back into the Income Tax e-filing portal and submitted a revised return with the corrected figures. The process was quite similar to filing the original return, and I selected the option to revise the previously filed ITR.
It took a little longer for my return to be processed compared to previous years, but I didn't receive any notice from the department. In my experience, correcting the mistake voluntarily gave me more confidence than leaving the return as it was.
I revised my return because my employer issued a corrected Form 16 after I had already filed.
The revised return reflected the updated TDS details, and I also cross-checked everything with AIS, TIS, and Form 26AS before submitting it again. My refund was eventually processed without any problems, although it took a few extra weeks.
If you're making corrections, I'd recommend reviewing all your tax documents first so you don't have to revise the return multiple times.

I made an error while reporting capital gains and wasn't sure whether it was serious enough to revise the return.
After speaking with a chartered accountant, I decided to file a revised ITR because the figures needed to be corrected. The process itself was straightforward, but I made sure to keep copies of both the original acknowledgement and the revised acknowledgement for my records.
One thing I learned is that it's generally better to correct genuine mistakes promptly instead of waiting to see if the department notices them. Of course, every case is different, especially if foreign income or complex investments are involved.
