I am an NRI currently living in the UAE, and I have been trying to decide whether to invest my savings in Indian mutual funds through SIPs or keep the money in fixed deposits.
I already have an NRE savings account and some money that I may not need for the next few years. My bank has offered different NRE fixed deposit tenures with guaranteed interest, while a few friends have suggested starting monthly SIPs in equity mutual funds for potentially better long-term returns.
I understand that both options work differently, but I am unsure which one makes more sense for someone living abroad.
I am not looking for a guaranteed-return investment, but I also do not want to take unnecessary risks with money I may need in a few years.
Would it make sense to split the savings between an FD and an SIP, or should I choose one based on my investment period?
